What I Will NOT Do

  • Proselytize or convert you
  • Debate doctrine or dogma
  • Pressure toward a belief outcome
  • Minimize the harm that you have experienced

I Will Guide You to Stabilize

Together, we will work to help you regain enough internal steadiness and external support to function, think clearly, and make choices without being driven primarily by threat, panic, shame, or overwhelm.

It is the early-phase work of creating safety and capacity so deeper processing and meaning-making can happen without escalating distress.

Stabilizing commonly includes:

  • Nervous system grounding and regulation: simple practices that reduce intensity (breath, orienting, pacing, resourcing) so the body comes back toward balance.
  • Reducing immediate pressure and risk: clarifying what is urgent vs. important, slowing impulsive decisions, and addressing any acute safety concerns (including relational safety).
  • Restoring basic functioning: sleep, eating, hydration, movement, medication adherence if applicable, and daily routines that reduce chaos.
  • Strengthening supports and boundaries: identifying who/what helps, setting limits with triggering people/spaces/media, and creating a plan for hard moments.
  • Clarifying the next step: a small, doable action plan that the person can follow through on (agency), rather than trying to solve everything at once.
  • Reality anchoring: naming what is true right now (what happened, what is happening, what options exist) to reduce confusion, self-doubt, and cognitive flooding.

In short, stabilize means establishing enough steadiness (body, mind, and environment) so that you can reliably take the next right step.

I Will Name Dynamics

Together, we will explicitly identify the relational and power patterns that are operating in your experience, so you can make sense of what happened (clarity) and regain choice (autonomy) without being pressured toward a particular belief outcome.

In practice, it usually includes putting accurate language to things like:

  • Power and control patterns: coercion, compliance pressure, surveillance, punishment, conditional belonging.
  • Manipulation mechanisms: fear, obligation, guilt (FOG), threats of loss, shame, “love” contingent on agreement.
  • Role conditioning: scapegoat/golden child dynamics, “good member” expectations, spiritualized roles (e.g., “submit,” “honor,” “covering”).
  • Boundary violations: intrusion into time/body/privacy, forced disclosure, undermining consent.
  • Attachment and belonging leverage: community access or relationships used as a lever to enforce conformity.
  • Moral injury dynamics: being forced to betray values, self, or conscience to stay safe/accepted.
  • Gaslighting / reality distortion: redefining harm as “your sin,” “your rebellion,” or “your lack of faith,” and requiring self-doubt as evidence of humility.

The point is not to pathologize or to debate theology; it is to map cause-and-effect so you can say, “This is the pattern I was in,” which reduces confusion and shame and supports a more coherent next step.

What Many Experience

  • Naming spiritual abuse patterns and reclaiming reality
  • Increased autonomy with reduced fear and guilt
  • Rebuilding identity, values, and community supports
  • Skillful boundaries with family/church relationships

How Coaching Works

  • Frequency (client-led): Clients choose the pace that fits their capacity and season. We will revisit frequency as needs and resources change.
  • Session length: Sessions are 60 minutes.
  • Session summary: After each session, a brief written summary will be provided so clients can track insights, decisions, and next steps.
  • How progress is recognized: Progress is defined by the client and is typically experienced as incremental forward movement toward the person the client wants to be and toward the life the client wants to live.
